The Grenada Information Technology Association held it’s formal launch on 3 July 2013, at The Public Workers Union Building on Ports Authority Highway.
The launch was very well attended by members of the government, invited guests, members of private sector, and association members, as well as members of the media.
The proceedings opened with an introduction from Ms Isabelle Slinger, the treasurer and one of the founding members of GITA. Ms Slinger was the MC for the event. Ms Slinger was followed by Ms Lana McPhail, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Communication, Work, Physical Development, Public Utilities and ICT, who gave a very encouraging and inspiring speech.
After Ms McPhail, Ms Michelle Slinger was introduced. Ms Slinger is the Chair of the Grenada Coalition of Service Industries. Her speech again was encouraging and forward thinking.
Mr Richard Rhamdanny, the President of GITA, closed the proceedings with remarks about the future of GITA, namely that ICT is not just for those working within the ICT industry but is a true enabler for everyone across all business sectors. He alluded to the old Grenada Board of Tourism motto – Tourism is everybody’s business, saying that
ICT should be everybody’s business
The final close of proceedings was the presentation of the prize of EC$1,000 in products and services to the winner of the logo competition, Mr Haron Forteau, for the modern logo he designed for the association.
Afterwards everyone had chance to network over refreshments provided by Island Catering.
